Junie B. Jones, First Grader (at last!)
by Barbara Park © 2001, 96 pages Level 3 (tell me about levels)First Grader (at last!) is the 18th book in the Junie B. Jones series, and is the first installment in the First Grader line. You do not really have to read the other books in the series first, but I recommend it.
The plot of this book is that Junie B. Jones is finally going to 1st grade! She gets all excited, 'cause she was getting tired of kindergarten. But bad news. Lucille, Junie B.'s old friend, doesn't like Junie B. as much anymore, and hangs with her two new friends, Camillle and Chamille, much more. Another bad thing is that Junie B.'s old 'bus friend' is sitting with someone else on the bus, and not her. But the worst problem of all is that Junie B. might need glasses! How will Junie B. solve all of these problems? Is first grade a flop? Many other interesting things await you if you delve into the magical world of Junie B.
Using funny words and phrases such as "grumped" and "bestest," this book scores very high on the uniqueness scale. Many young readers will find this book hilarious, and if adults take the 30 minutes out of their day to read this, it may even bring a smile to their faces too.
