When our day-to-day life takes us from garage to work to grocery store to gas station and back home again, it can be easy to forget what a gorgeous country we live in. One of my favorite parts about our family road trips is the opportunity to be reminded of America's diverse beauty. It was a similar excursion that spurred Katharine Lee Bates to write America the Beautiful, as she traveled from Massachusetts to Colorado, stopping at Niagara Falls and Chicago along the way. The breathtaking view from the summit of Pike's Peak inspired the words to the poem, which later became a hymn. The lush, colorful spreads do a wonderful job of illustrating the song, and there's a guide in the back that gives an explanation for each location. This book is a perfect introduction to not only the song, but the stunning landscape that is America the Beautiful.
