There are so many variations on Cinderella stories available in print that no little girl should think that the only Cinderella is the Disney version. This collection of six Cinderella-type stories is captivating and very well performed. The collection includes a simple 3-minute story as well as a 15-minute one about a boy Cinderella. The total running time is just over an hour and is recommended for ages 8 and up. My daughter and I loved these stories, listening intently over our lunch one summer day.
Other Cinderella stories to check out:
Cinder Edna by Ellen Jackson
Cindy Ellen: a Wild Western Cinderella by Susan Lowell

Some of my fav Cinderella renditions:
The Rough-Face Girl (Native American)
Mufaro's Beautiful Daughters (African)
and there's one done with Russian illistrations which are just breath taking, but I can't seem to find it.
(P.S. Thanks for such a great blog.)

I love different Cinderella versions as well. When I used to teach reading enrichment classes in an elementary school, I had an entire Cinderella unit that I taught with the fifth grade students. First I read a couple of versions to them, and we compared and contrasted the stories together. Then, I grouped them by ability levels and gave each group a different version of Cinderella at their reading level. After sharing a summary of their stories with the class, my students had a good grasp of the elements needed to write their own Cinderella story. Finally, I regrouped them in groups of varying reading/writing abilities, and together they worked on writing and illustrating their own Cinderella stories. It was great fun! My students came up with some very creative versions of Cinderella.
